These are tough economic times, but there is money to be gotten through, extended lines of credit,  micro-loans, traditional business loans and other funding sources. Since the economic down-turn, institutions (large and small) will look at your credit worthiness, along with with the profit potential of your venture, more closely.

The first thing to do when assessing your credit worthiness, is to get your personal credit score. DON’T PANIC; you just need to establish a starting point. Getting your credit score will allow you to make some basic decisions.

1. Do you qualify for any credit or loans?

2. How much money you will be able to obtain in the form of credit or loans.

The easiest (and cheapest) way to get your credit information, is to get a free credit score. This will get you started in the right direction. Either you begin the journey of repairing your credit score or you can start exploring funding options.

The second part is the profit potential of your business. If you plan to obtain funding from an institution or your rich uncle, you will have to have a business in which the profit potential can be seen. You must be prepared to explain, in detail, your businesses profitability. The better you can communicate your businesses potential, the better the chance of others seeing your vision. Write a business plan! This will force you to answer the right questions about your business and give your vision greater focus.
